PRIMITIVE is an unscented androstenone concentrate sold by Royal Pheromones for use on its own or beneath a separate cologne. It is an oil applied by the drop, not a conventional scented cologne. The seller publishes bottle sizes and an overall androstenone amount, but the promise that it will change attraction or social status has not been established for the finished product. In our men’s pheromone buyer’s guide, Nexus remains our best overall shopping pick for a simpler spray format.
How we reviewed it: We checked the current Royal Pheromones listing, its application and return information, and peer-reviewed research on proposed human pheromones. We have not worn PRIMITIVE, analyzed a bottle, verified its stated concentration, or measured attraction outcomes. The earlier version of this post confused it with Dirty Primitive, a separate androstenone-and-copulins product. This review covers PRIMITIVE only.

Our verdict
Best for: A buyer who already enjoys a cologne and specifically wants to try an unscented, single-compound additive applied in small amounts. It asks more of the user than a ready-to-wear fragrance: select a size, use a dropper, and choose a separate scent. It is less appealing if you want fragrance in the bottle or evidence that a product reliably increases attraction.
- What we like: The seller identifies the featured compound and states the total amount per bottle, describes one-drop use, and publishes an opened-bottle return offer.
- What to weigh: No controlled trial of the finished PRIMITIVE oil was identified; the per-drop numbers disagree on the product page; some people may notice androstenone’s natural smell; and the sealed-item return window needs confirmation.
Formula and what the numbers mean
Royal Pheromones describes PRIMITIVE as an androstenone-only concentrate and lists 6 mg per 10 mL or 18 mg per 30 mL. That refers to the marketed active molecule, not a claim that the entire oil contains only one ingredient. The listing also names carrier and fragrance ingredients. Its summary says 16 micrograms per drop, while its detailed description says about 18.75 micrograms per drop. Drop size depends on the dispenser and handling, so we would rely on the bottle-level figure as a seller claim and ask the retailer for clarification if exact dosing matters.
PRIMITIVE is not Dirty Primitive. The latter is a separate formula marketed with copulins as well as androstenone. Statements in the old review about copulins, scent performance, or social “effects” were therefore not evidence about this product.
Does androstenone increase attraction?
Androstenone is a real chemical found in human secretions and other mammals, but its presence in a bottle does not establish a predictable human attraction response. A scientific review of proposed human pheromones found no robust evidence that several often-marketed steroid molecules, including androstenone, had been established as human sex pheromones. The paper did not test PRIMITIVE. We found no controlled study of the finished oil showing that it changes another person’s behavior.
Testimonials and product descriptions about dominance, status, or an “alpha” effect are not a substitute for that kind of test. A fragrance or grooming routine may influence how someone feels and interacts, but that does not identify a compound-specific biological effect.
Scent, application, and layering
The retailer lists an unscented option and recommends one drop to start, usually on the neck or wrists, followed by a separate cologne. “Unscented” means no intended fragrance profile; the seller itself notes that androstenone can smell musky or sharp to some people. We have not worn the oil, so we cannot verify how noticeable it is on skin or whether it affects a cologne layered over it.
Follow the seller’s current directions and avoid assuming more drops will produce better results. The retailer recommends applying the oil and cologne separately instead of mixing them in the bottle. For anyone who simply wants a pleasant ready-to-wear scent, PRIMITIVE’s dropper format adds steps without a demonstrated attraction benefit.
Price and return terms
The listing showed $99.95 for a selected size when checked, but it offers both 10 mL and 30 mL options and its displayed variant and shipping details can change. Check the size actually selected, product price, delivery cost, and availability at checkout rather than treating the old $99.95 review-box price as universal.
The seller’s product page advertises a 90-day money-back offer on one opened bottle per customer, with at least 14 days of use and prior return authorization. It says original shipping is excluded. We saw differing deadlines for unopened or sealed returns across versions of the page, so confirm the current written terms with the seller before buying if that matters to you.
PRIMITIVE vs. Nexus
PRIMITIVE is a single-compound oil for someone comfortable applying a drop and wearing another fragrance. Nexus is a lightly scented spray that can be worn on its own or layered. Nexus is our more convenient overall shopping recommendation; PRIMITIVE serves the narrower use case of a measured oil concentrate. We have not compared them in a wear test, and no verified head-to-head trial establishes an attraction advantage.
Frequently asked questions
Is PRIMITIVE the same as Dirty Primitive?
No. PRIMITIVE is marketed as an androstenone concentrate. Dirty Primitive is a separate product that also contains copulins.
Is PRIMITIVE a cologne?
It is an unscented oil concentrate applied by dropper. The seller suggests pairing it with a cologne you already like.
How much should I use?
Royal Pheromones recommends starting with one drop. Its published per-drop androstenone figures differ, so ask the seller if precise amounts matter to you.
Does it make people more attracted to me?
We found no controlled trial of the finished product establishing that outcome. The seller’s claims and customer accounts should not be treated as proof.
Can I return an opened bottle?
The seller advertises a 90-day offer on one opened bottle per customer after at least 14 days’ use, subject to prior authorization and its current terms. Original shipping is excluded.
Editorial note: Product details and seller terms checked October 3, 2026. This is a research-based review; we have not independently tested PRIMITIVE or measured attraction outcomes.
